Episode 20 - Day in the Life - Layout Artist - Part 1 of 2
MEET THE GUEST: COREY “ROCCO” FLORIMONTE
Cory Rocco Florimonte grew up in Valencia, CA as a Calarts brat and eventually graduated from its Character Animation program in '98. Since then he has done feature film, television, shorts, video game, previs, and attraction work. He's spent his last 18 years with Disney Feature Animation as a Layout Artist, Lead, Camera Polisher, and Director of Cinematography, Layout. His free time (if there is such a thing) is spent in the workshop, making things that seem like they should be made, and asking, "How hard can it be?"
MEET THE GUEST: DORIAN BUSTAMANTE
Born and raised in Arizona. Like many young artists I wanted to do 2-D animation as a kid. All that changed in 1993 when Jurassic Park was released. That began my journey into studying computer animation. In late 2001, at 20 years old I got an offer to work at Lucasfilm and moved to Marin County, California. There I spent over 3 years in the StarWars art department (JAK) working for George Lucas. The hours were long but I was introduced to everything from Animation, Previs, concept art to final compositing. Over time I developed a set of well rounded skills and a strong work ethic. During the completion of the Star Wars prequels, I was recruited to work with Steven Spielberg. We were the first team to introduce Pre-viz to him on "War of The Worlds". That brought me to Los Angeles and since then I have worked on some of the biggest film directors in the industry that include James Cameron (Avatar) and JJ Abrams (Star Trek). I still have a love for animation and during my journey I was able to work at DreamWorks Animation and now Walt Disney Feature Animation (my current position).
